“Leicester will be hosting this years Annual Youth Conference gathering, the second largest gathering of Muslims the UK. The day long event will include lectures by renowned Muslim scholars. There are other planned events such as nasheeds and tilawat and there will be various stalls, food, etc.”

Imam Asjad is organising transport for this event and will be arranging 1-2 coaches for those who wish to attend. The cost is £15-20 per person. This event is for men and boys only. In the past there has been excellent feedback.

The coaches will leave the Abu Bakr Masjid at 9am on Sunday 11th March.

Over £45,000 was raised at our London charity dinner event ‘Orphans & The Generosity of the Prophet (pbuh)’. Held at the London Muslim Centre, the evening was both spiritual and inspirational. The guests showed overwhelming generosity and support to raise a phenomenal amount of money for the desperate orphans of Bangladesh. A plethora of talent was on show with nasheed artists, a high profile host, dedicated fundraisers and world renowned orators.

The evening was hosted by FOSIS president Nabil Ahmed, who presented the show with razor sharp wit keeping the audience thoroughly entertained. The fundraising section was conducted by Na’eem Raza who gave a deeply emotional plea for all the orphans in Bangladesh to which the audience responded with enthusiasm and awe inspiring generosity.

Nasheed artist Nazeel Azami started the event with a beautiful song from his album ‘Dunya’ and set the mood for the entire evening.

Unfortunately one of our guest speakers, Imam Yassir Fazaga, was unable to attend due to a major illness in his family but he gave a heartfelt message to the audience and was truly missed. Shaykh Abdur Rahman Helbawy kindly agreed at the last minute to take his place.

Shaykh Abdur Rahman’s lecture about the importance of orphans in Islam was hugely powerful: it highlighted the fundamental duties placed upon all Muslims to be kind and just and to help all orphans and the needy. Our second guest was Shaykh Abdul Hakim Murad, a truly accomplished academic and highly sought after speaker. He gave a lecture on the generosity of the Prophet (pbuh) towards orphans and how our beloved Prophet was himself an orphan.

It was a truly blessed evening and we wish to sincerely thank our speakers Shaykh Abdur Rahman Helbawy and Shaykh Abdul Hakim Murad, the host Nabil Ahmed, the fundraiser Na’eem Raza and nasheed artist Nazeel Azami. A big thank you must go to Biswanath Regeneration Trust UK who helped make this event possible and finally to all those who attended and gave so generously.

“The Prophet (pbuh) himself was an orphan, his father dying before he was born and his mother dying when he was just six years old. This is perhaps why he had so much empathy with the orphan child saying, “he who cares for the orphan child will be like this with me on the Day of Judgement”, and he held up two fingers close together.

His grandfather was his protector, but it could so easily have been that this was not the case. He could so easily have been cast out and alone, with no parent to care for him. This is after all, the fate of millions upon millions of children across the world. Such children rely on the charity of those of us who are blessed, by Allah’s grace, to have stability and wealth. Yet, perhaps we feel we have given enough, that there are so many causes which are demanding our resources. It is at this point that we must remember two things.

Firstly, charity is an investment for the future. Allah has promised a 700% return on investment, where in the Qur’an He says, “The parable of those who spend their possessions for the sake of God is that of a grain out of which grow seven ears, in every ear a hundred grains: for God grants manifold increase unto whom He wills; and God is infinite, all-knowing.” (2:261) Secondly, we must remember that as the Prophet said, “wealth is not diminished by charity.” Therefore whatever we give in this world, with the right intention, will not reduce our wealth in the slightest. When the Qur’an reminds us in multiple places to care for the orphan, it is a reminder of the importance of this form of charity.

So let us not be, as the Qur’an reminds us, the kind of man who “…gives the lie to all moral law? Behold, it is this [kind of man] that thrusts the orphan away.” (107:1-2) Rather, let us be amongst those who, like the Prophet, loved the orphan child. And in so doing, let us be amongst those who are close to the orphaned Prophet on the Last Day.”

This year we’re raising funds to help Gaza’s only hospital for children to build three urgently needed new departments: Gastroenterology, Cardiology, and Respiratory Section. These will help provide safe conditions for even more of Gaza’s sick children insha’Allah.

Where your money went last year

In Jan 2011, over 500 people from across the country supported the Winter Walk in London and Spring Walk in Manchester, raising a staggering £60,000 which helped to build a new the Emergency Wing and Pharmacy Department for Al-Durrah Hospital.

Basic necessities such as a waiting room for patients, a separate place to store drugs with proper ventilation and room temperature; a Medical Disposables store and an external pharmacy room have allowed the hospital to improve work efficiency.

In one year alone, the hospital supported approximately 130,000 sick children. Without your support, this would not have been possible.
